Santa In Kunming, China 1988 - 1990

Xiao Chen was one of the main organizers of the English Teahouse (Chaguan) and the Santa Night. He interview me and I gave him the third degree about having been a good boy that year. He had a motorcycle but I knew he really wanted a car. I promised him one and sure enough, I reached into my PLA Santa back pack (on the floor) and gave him a small model car. Lot's of laughter.

Santa passed out other gifts and candies to the crowd. As with most of these activities, everyone was expected to perform - a poem, a song or some kind of skit.

Then there was a time for dancing. As I remember, the party was without alcohol - but plenty of green tea and other munchies.

There were probably about 200 young adults at the party and quite a number of Chinese and foreign teachers. I only pulled duty as Santa for one year. I passed it on to a friend the second year. The cotton was actually glued to my face - ouch!!

A great deal of my time was taken up in taking pictures. I am certain that I was involved in more than 150 shots!!
