FT. LAWTON - SEATTLE, WASH.

With the war over and millions of troops homeward bound the installation changed from a

Port of Embarkation to a Port of Debarkation. The ports in California were taxed to capacity.

Accordingly, Fort Lawton received men from the South Pacific as well as the North.

Many troop trains came and left daily, carrying the returnees to all points of the country.

The challenge was to get the men to an Army Facility as close to their home as possible.
